The first activity that got on the way was the “Cook off” of an ‘Oil-Down’ (vegetarian versus pigtail style). The two teams were Breadfruit a la Phillipe^’ and Kaneelia’s Oil Down and both had their Sous Chefs alongside to assist with the cutting, peeling and stirring. Ms. Cynthia Cowling (visiting Director of Education/ISRRT) was on hand and keenly scrutinized the preparations of the ‘Oil Down’.

 

At around 12:30pm the spoons were down and it was time for the tasting and judging of the two dishes. Thanks to our many competent judges (Mr. Bruce, Mrs. Reid-Russell, Mrs. Rachael, Mr. Shiva, and Mrs. Charles), whose scores were based on the criteria of: taste, smell, use of three key ingredients and flavor. The results of the “Cook off” declared Kaneelia’s Oil Down the winner, while Breadfruit a la Phillpe^’came in second place. Both parties received cash prizes, which were presented by the President of the Society.

 

A 1:30 pm the sunshine was still out and the fun filled sporting activities began, first for the children followed on by the adults. Some of the events were ‘lime and spoon’, ‘three legged’ and ‘sack’ races, and of course good old ‘tug-of-war’ and the 50m dash. All races were closed off by 4:30 pm and down came a few minutes of rain which we considered another of God’s blessings on us for the day. There was a small prize giving for the children in the various categories. Congratulations to Mrs. Bruce for her jump rope skills and for showing how it’s done. 

 

The rest of the evening continued to be filled with great food, talk and laughter. We all shared in a word of prayer, gave thanks for another successful event and wonderful day. The Executive Committee of the Society once again thanks all persons who attended the Fun & Family Day and look forward to your continued support.
