The Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon (TTIM) hosted its 30th marathon which took place on Sunday 25th March, 2012. There was a pre-warm up 5K race that was scheduled on Saturday 24th March at 4.00 pm around the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. One of our very own registered radiographers from the NCRHA, EWMSC, Radiology Department (Franka Thompson) participated in both the Pre warm-up 5K race, as well as, the Trinidad and Tobago Annual Marathon 2012 in which she registered for the Half Marathon.

Franka Thompson is a deligent radiographer who helps to assist the underprivileged whenever she can and is very supportive of children's development including her own.
This marathon which began as early as 3 am for the walkers, 5:00 am for the Full Marathon participants and at 5:45 am for the Half Marathon from Freeport (Central Trinidad) to Whitehall, Port-of-Spain. This race took on the traditional route from along the Southern and Eastern Main Roads before entering into Port of Spain heading onto Whitehall. There were many participants from Africa, Zimbabwe and many other international runners.  Our very own Ronnie Holasse (Trinidad and Tobago International runner) finished the full marathon in 5th place (2hrs 39 mins. and 31 secs.) and called for more local sponsorship for local runners to promote the sport.
Society of Radiographers of Trinidad and Tobago (SORTT) congratulate our lone representative Ms Franka Thompson, who has been an avid runner over the past years and have re-entered the competitions as of 2009. This marathon has been her best time ever of two hours and twenty-one minutes and nineteen seconds (2 hrs 21mins and 19 secs.) in the Trinidad and Tobago Half Marathon. Franka was the 12th female runner to finish the marathon with as much as 207 participants - she finished 118th overall.
Her upcoming races would be on June 6th for the 15K Butler Race, then onto New Jersey during the month of October, 2012 for the 15K International Marathon. The Society of Radiographers of Trinidad and Tobago wish to extend our support to Ms Thompson in her future marathons. It is hoped that the Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon will strive towards even better things in the years ahead to place Trinidad and Tobago as the top regional marathon in the English speaking Caribbean.
