The President of the Society of Radiographers of Trinidad and Tobago had the pleasure of meeting the President/CEO of the Michener Institute, Dr Gamble and his contingent from Toronto, Canada.
The Canadian visitors were in town for a three-day visit to Trinidad to meet with members of the Michener Alumni. The Michener’s presence in Trinidad came through its many postgraduate distance-learning courses which many locals and other Caribbean persons had enrolled. Although the expectant weather should have brought a warm, sunny atmosphere to our visitors they were greeted instead with pleasant showers of blessing throughout their visit. The high point of the visit was the inaugural alumni dinner.
The Michener Alumni and Friends Dinner was hosted on the Monday 2nd of February 2009, at the Kapok Hotel in Port of Spain. The Michener Institute extended their 50th Anniversary Celebrations to Trinidad and gave the delegation from the Institute a chance to meet its foreign members of the Alumni. In attendance were elegantly clad representatives from the Radiographic, Sonographic and Medical Laboratory Fraternities.
A succinct celebration preceded dinner with a mini graduation ceremony for two of the recently successful ultrasound graduates (Mrs. Jassinth Bryan-Lewis and Mrs. Solange Eligon-Khan). Also recognized and appreciated for their invaluable contribution to the clinical component of the Ultrasound program were Ms. Jamine Chadee and Mrs. Shirley Bland-Mohon. They had shown great integrity and commitment since the inception of the Michener’s Ultrasound program some ten years ago.
A special award was presented to Ms. Wilma Collins, Chair of the Radiological Sciences Program at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT). The longstanding collaborative effort between Michener and COSTAATT (formerly NIHERST) has been fostered by both administrations and Ms. Wilma Collins has certainly maintained a high international standard in the delivery of her portfolio.
Cheers to all the recipients and alumni, and special Congratulations to the Michener Institute for sharing their Golden Anniversary with the local fraternity.
The group left early Wednesday morning (February 4th, 2009) and jetted off to our neighboring island of Barbados.
